Government set to announce largest ever ICT project on Thursday

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is set to announce the details of the largest ever ICT project.

GATE, the Government Assisted Technology Endeavour, is a multi-million dollar partnership between the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and telecommunications company Digicel.

The announcement of this project is slated for Thursday, July 12th at 5:30 p.m. at the Sandals Grande Antiguan Resort and Spa.

Minister of State in the office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Edmond Mansoor says: “Digicel’s partnership with the Government on GATE will leapfrog Antigua’s place in today’s regional and global economy. GATE will focus on broadband Internet connectivity, innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation and sustainability.”

“It represents a bold step forward by the Government in preparing Antiguans for the next twenty years. This future casting is representative of the visionary thinking of the Government, since the Ministry charged with the development of the ICT sector has been thinking deeply about what citizens will require in the future. Indeed, GATE represents Antigua’s gate to the future.” Minister Mansoor declared.

CEO of Digicel Antigua, Victor Corcoran, says Digicel’s commitment to GATE indicates the deep and long term commitment that Digicel has to partnering with the Government in building human capacity, inspiring entrepreneurships and maintaining Antigua and Barbuda as the ICT capital of the Caribbean.
