Antigua and Barbuda is primed to host the 11th annual Caribbean Agriculture Week. This is the first time the country is hosting and plans are in place to ensure its success.
Communications Coordinator within the Ministry of Agriculture, Ms. Wendy Tittle, says the activities will give locals the opportunity to share their passion for agriculture while at the same time highlighting the importance of the industry.
According to Ms. Tittle, one of the messages she is hoping to get across during the week-long event is that agriculture is one of the most important sectors in a country. Without food security, a country is at a disadvantage.
One of the week’s highlights will be a Trade show and Exhibition. Sub-committee Chair of Caribbean Agriculture Week and General Manager of Central Marketing Cooperation (CMC) Mr. Dalma Hill, encourages farmers and those involved in the field to register for these events.
Mr. Hill says registration is of primary importance for participation in both the Trade Show and Exhibition. Manufacturing, Technology and Agro Processing are a few of the categories for which participants may register.
According to the Sub-committee Chair, invitations are being issued to other islands in the region and the categories relate to the target invitees and the Market Place is designed to accommodate persons in these categories.
Registration fee is USD$100 and Caribbean Agriculture Week is being held under the theme; “Celebrating Youth & Gender in Caribbean Agriculture, Each Endeavoring.”
