Official Funeral for Super Centenarian Irene Carlos

Antigua and Barbuda’s Super centenarian Irene Carlos will be given an official funeral. Cabinet at its weekly meeting decided to grant the 110 year old woman an official funeral which will take place on Thursday, September 27th, 2012.

The first meeting of the Funeral Planning Committee was held on Monday, September 17th, under the chairmanship of Minister of Education, Sports, Youth and Gender Affairs Dr. Hon. Jacqui Quinn Leandro.
According to Minister Quinn Leandro, Ms. Carlos will be given a three volley rifle salute and a dignified farewell befitting her status as Antigua’s oldest daughter of the soil and the Caribbean’s second oldest person.

Viewing of the body will be from 11:45 to 12:15 at Barnes Funeral Home. The service will be held at the Freetown Methodist Church. The sermon will be preached by Reverend Calvin Greenaway and the Eulogy read by Iothie Wyre. Tributes will be done by the Freetown Community Group, Master of the Fiennes Mr. Alton Forde and teacher Benjamin Williams, her former neighbor.

Lessons will be read by Governor General Dame Louise Lake Tack, her Parliamentary Representative, Hon. Wilmoth Daniel and Ms. Carlos’ sister, Gloria Carlos.
    
The body of the late Irene Carlos will be interred in the Freetown Methodist Church cemetery.
