Antigua and Barbuda Standard Specification for New and Used Pneumatic Passenger Car Tyres 0.0 FOREWORD 0.2 The open market system has brought an influx of used tyres into the country. There are no trade restrictions with regards to the quality of the used tyres therefore the consumers are under the perception that they are purchasing a quality product. 0.2.1 The risk involved is that the used tyre may contain defects that may not be detected by untrained consumers and hence become a safety hazard to road users. 0.3 This standard addresses the concern with the used tyres by incorporating a section with detailed inspection and selection criteria. 0.4 The Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards has recommended that this standard be declared a compulsory standard to protect the consumer or user against danger to health or safety. 0.4.1 This standard will become effective as a compulsory standard on a date to be notified by the Minister responsible for standardisation in a notice to be published in the Antigua and Barbuda gazette, as required by the Standards Act Cap 411 para. 17 (3). 1.0 PURPOSE AND SCOPE This standard specifies tyre dimensions and laboratory test requirements for bead unseating resistance, strength, endurance and high speed performance, defines tyre load ratings and other relevant terms and specific tyre labelling requirements. 2.0 APPLICATION 2.1.
