Two senior officials from the Ministry of Health will be in Washington next week to discuss a number of issues relating to the development of the health care system in Antigua and Barbuda.

Health Minister the Hon John Maginley and Chief Medical Officer Dr Rhonda Sealey-Thomas will travel to Washington for the Orientation Visit of Ministers of Health Meeting at the PAHO headquarters from August 8th to the 10th.

During the one-week discussions, Minister Maginley will make a presentation to PAHO on the health situation in Antigua and Barbuda.

According to Minister Maginley, this presentation will focus on the health issues that are affecting Antigua and Barbuda and how PAHO can best assist the country in achieving its relevant health goals.

The Health Minister also indicated that this visit to the PAHO headquarters will provide the ministers with an orientation to PAHO/WHO and its regional technical units.

The Minister added that the meeting will also provide the participants with the opportunity to obtain additional information on specific areas of PAHO's work.

During the discussions the delegates will also put emphasis on the organization's planning and budgeting strategies which includes the regional programme budget policy and the sub-regional approach. They will also call attention to the countries-focused cooperation for national health development, highlighting the role of the country cooperation strategy.

The other countries taking part in the meeting are Dominica, Grenada, and St Kitts and Nevis.
