Seven Antiguan and Barbudan students prepare to join their colleagues in Mexico
August 05th, 2005
  ST. JOHN'S, Antigua:

The seven remaining Antiguan & Barbudan students who won scholarships to pursue studies in Mexico will depart Antigua on Monday 8th August.

While nineteen students left for Mexico at the beginning of June, a few students were still enrolled at the Antigua State College and were permitted to delay their departure in order to complete their external examinations. Still others were granted extensions in order to resolve outstanding commitments.

Tariq Beazer, Ernest Bradshaw, Adele Brewster, Celia Casey, Natalya Henry, Diana Martin and Terry-Ann Marsh are scheduled to begin an intensive language and cultural immersion programme in Taxco, Mexico on August 9th. Upon their arrival in Mexico they will also advance the process of identifying universities where they will pursue their degrees.

The Antiguans who are already in Taxco are looking forward to welcoming their colleagues and assisting them with their integration into life in Mexico. Under the terms of the scholarships granted by the Government of Mexico, upon the completion of their studies all twenty-six Antiguans & Barbudans will return to the country where they will make their contribution to nation building. This initiative is a pivotal component of the Government's thrust to convert Antigua & Barbuda to a multilingual society while strengthening ties with our Latin American neighbours.
