The governments of Antigua and Barbuda and the Federal Republic of Nigeria have pledged to work closely to develop closer links in tourism.

During a visit to Antigua and Barbuda over the holiday weekend, on the invitation of Prime Minister Spencer, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, President Nigeria said that both countries already have the ancestral links and developing avenues for greater association and collaboration is necessary.

Both countries agreed to further explore the possibility of cooperating in the development of tourism links.

During the discussions with members of the Cabinet of Prime Minister Spencer, President Obasanjo also brought forward his country's position on the expansion of the United Nations Security Council and the need for Africa to be represented.

Prime Minister Spencer also put forward the need for Nigeria and countries within the region to closely look at the present petroleum problem affecting the world and seek ways to lessen the effects of rising prices.

During his stay in Antigua and Barbuda, President Obasanjo also met with Governor General Sir James Carlisle and a representative group of Nigerians living in Antigua and Barbuda. He was given an honour guard upon arrival at the V.C. Bird International Airport.
