Fifty-five year
old Winston Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister of
Antigua and Barbuda, is committed to breaking
with the leadership models of the past. He has
pledged to demystify the workings of government in Antigua and
Barbuda, hence, the Nation’s new theme, “ Government in
the Sunshine” Prime Minister Spencer and his Team
have ushered in an era of
participatory democracy and transparent governance in Antigua and
Barbuda.
Prime Minister Spencer remains loyal to his
humble beginnings, and manifestly cares about
the plight of the poor and disadvantaged.
Throughout his 33 years in public life, he has
never hesitated to raise difficult issues and
present unpopular ideas.
Active in politics from an early age, Prime
Minister Spencer served on the political
committee for the St. John’s Rural West
Constituency. He has spent more than a quarter
of a century negotiating relations between the
employer and the employee in this country. He
has traveled widely as a keynote speaker at
labour-related events.
Prime Minister Spencer has served as
President of the Antigua Steelband Association
and has been the motivator behind the Halcyon
Steel Orchestra, the most successful band in the
history of Steelband Competitions in Antigua. He
has played a key role in the Empire Football
Club, and has served at the National Level with
the Antigua Football Association. He is
also an avid cricket fan, and a former member of
the Antigua Cricket Association.
A Visionary who believes in destiny, the
Honourable Baldwin Spencer has made a commitment
of lifetime service to the people of Antigua and
Barbuda. All that he has done to date has been
fitting preparation for the Office he now holds.
At the core of his approach to governance is
Prime Minister Spencer’s oft-stated declaration:
“I am the Chief Servant of the Antiguan
and Barbudan people”.
