About the
CARICOM Single Market Economy (CSME) Unit

The CSME Unit for Antigua and Barbuda was established in January of 2003 to help others understand their role in the overall process so that they too can position themselves to benefit from what the integration movement within CARICOM offers.

Our main function is to establish an efficient mode of coordination of the activities for the implementation of the CSME. Therefore we establish operational linkages with all the other governmental agencies and involve them in discussions pertaining to the implementation of the CSME.

The Unit is also responsible for the dissemination of information via national consultations and other public awareness campaigns to inform the general public and specifically private sector stakeholders.

The Unit basically monitors the progress of the implementation of the CSME by acting as a repository for all information on CSME and making it available to relevant Government agencies, private sector and social partners. As such, our work is not exclusive but inclusive - it involves everyone who is possibly affected by integration. We are established to help facilitate the implementation of the CSME. We provide information, awareness and some direction on the implications of the movement.

The process which the CSME Unit has begun through various public education initiatives will only be realized with the interest, involvement and commitment of all public officers/ stakeholders. Networking is therefore encouraged on a formal and an informal basis. There are certain governmental agencies, which naturally have a close relationship, e.g. Immigration and Labour. However all relevant agencies represented at the national level would formally and informally establish linkages on a regular basis.
