Sometimes the goods you buy, or the service you use, can turn out to be problematic. When this happens, there are four golden rules to follow.
- Examine the goods you buy at once. If they are faulty, inform the trader immediately.
- Keep any receipts you are given. If you have to return something, the receipt will help to prove where and when you purchased the item.
- Don't be afraid to complain. You did not ask for faulty goods or bad service, the trader is obligated to put things right. The law is on your side.
- Be persistent, but not aggressive. If your complaint is justified, it is the trader's responsibility to put things right.
If you did not notice the fault until you got home with the goods, return to the store as soon as possible. If you live far away from the store and it is not possible to get back in reasonable time, call and explain the problem to the person in charge. If you wait too long, you just might loose your chance to get redress.
When you return to the store, ask to speak to the manager or the person in charge and state your complaint. Always try to be as polite as possible. This will help the matter to be resolved quickly.
