Ministry finalizing plans for World Health Day

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua

The Ministry of Health is finalizing a programme of activities to commemorate this year's World Health Day which will be observed on April 7th under the theme "Working together for Health".

This year's celebration will focus on the contribution of Health Care Workers throughout the world including Antigua and Barbuda.

A Coordinating Committee headed by the acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kenneth Greenaway has organized a week of activities to commence with a service of recognition and thanksgiving at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Nevis Street on Sunday 2nd April, at 4:00 p.m.

Other events will include:

Monday 3rd April Exchange Programme among the various Health Institutions and the staff at the Ministry of Health Headquarters
Tuesday 4th April* Let's Talk Programme
Wednesday 5th AprilBARBUDA DAY
Mini Fair
Luncheon to honour Health Care Workers in Barbuda
Thursday 6th AprilBanquet - to recognize health care workers who have given over 30 years of service and those who are retiring this year.
*Friday 7th April WORLD HEALTH DAY
World Health Day address by the Hon. Minister of Health, Sports, Youth Affairs and Carnival
Health Walk from Yasco at 5:30 a.m.
Health Fair at the Parking Lot of the Ministry of Health

One of the highlights of the week is a health walk, which will begin at YASCO Sports Complex. The Coordinating Committee is encouraging groups, families and individuals in the surrounding areas of St. John's to participate in this physical activity on Friday 7th April at 5:30 a.m.

The Coordinating Committee is also inviting community groups to get involved by organizing health walks in the various communities/villages in the Antigua and Barbuda.

The Ministry of Health will continue to up-date the public on the planned activities to observe World Health Day.
