Dominican Republic Consul-General Arrives in Antigua

Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer this morning welcomed Mr. Jorge Disla Canaan as the 1st Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Antigua and Barbuda.
In a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister welcomed Mr. Disla and pointed out that his appointment as the first Consul-General from the Dominican Republic to Antigua and Barbuda was a reflection of growing relations between the two countries.
Mr. Disla brought special greetings from the President of the Dominican Republic – Leonel Fernendez and he told the Prime Minister that he intended to open the consulate as soon as possible in order to help resolve many of the issues that affect the Dominican Community in Antigua and Barbuda. He pledged to work with the Government in improving relations with the Dominican Republic and he congratulated the Prime Minister and his Government for all the hard work that has resulted in the establishment of the first Dominican Republic Consulate in Antigua and Barbuda.
The Prime Minister acknowledged that the opening of the Consulate was an important step and that he was pleased to deliver on a promise he had made to the nationals of the Dominican Republic living in Antigua and Barbuda. He said that in the coming months, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant government agencies would engage the consulate on many issues that affect relations between the Dominican Republic and Antigua and Barbuda.
Also attending the meeting was Ambassador Colin Murdoch, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Ricardo Koenig, Honorary Consul General of Antigua and Barbuda in the Dominican Republic.
