ST. JOHN'S, Antigua
Prime Minister the Hon. Baldwin Spencer today announced the acquisition of a state-of-art digital video recorder (DVR) for use with the high-tech camera that is installed on the mobile command unit used by the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda. The announcement comes on the heels of last week's acquisition of a Comparison Microscope for use by the Police's Forensic Department to examine evidence in gun-related crimes.
“This state-of-art equipment will be an additional tool to aid our Police with their crime fighting efforts, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our UN Ambassador Dr. John W. Ashe who has been very instrumental in the acquisition of both the mobile command unit and the DVR,” said the Prime Minister.
The digital video recorder (DVR) the Prime Minister will present to Police Commissioner Delano Christopher is manufactured by Pelco of Clovis California, an ISO 9001 certified company. It will enable the Police to record live video of crime scenes on a CD or to a USB thumb drive for later use as evidence.
The DVR also contains a spot monitor that can be used for public view applications, providing an effective deterrent to would-be criminals. It is designed to work with today's broadband networks and uses MPEG-4 compression, allowing the user the ability to view and control the DVR across a local or wide-are network. Additionally, the smaller file size produced by the MPEG-4 compression standard, allows for longer storage times compared with traditional DVR technologies.
