Libya to fund transportation
infrastructure in Antigua and Barbuda

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua
Prime Minister the Honourable Baldwin Spencer announced today that the Government of Libya (Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya) has provided bilateral assistance for the development of transportation infrastructure in Antigua and Barbuda.
"After a series of meetings between our UN Ambassador, Dr. John W. Ashe, and his Libyan counterpart, Ambassador Giardalla Ettalhi, my government has received financial assistance from the Government of Libya to, among other things, help us to strengthen a number of community initiatives we have undertaken, including the Mobile IT classroom initiative," said the Prime Minister.
"The assistance is all the more timely when one takes into consideration that my government has declared September as 'Technology Month,'" he added.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ambassador Ashe for his efforts," said the Prime Minister.
The funds will also be used to strengthened the country's emergency medical response unit and community transport system.
Libya, which is formerly known as The Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, has recently established diplomatic relations with Antigua and Barbuda. It has been tapped by the UN to play a key role in fashioning a peace agreement between the various sides of the conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan.
