Last Friday, self acclaimed "Culinary Ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda" Chef Murphy was featured live on CBS 46 in Atlanta, GA. In his second television appearance this year, Chef Murphy made an appearance on the "Better Mornings Show" in a television segment that featured Caribbean Weekend Expo.
Chef Murphy shared with an audience of over 4 million how to prepare fried polenta medallions (fungee) and Cavalier chicken. Murphy served up cocktail samples of one of the destination's national dishes, and provided his own signature twist with a dish that utilized Cavalier Rum and Susie's Hot Sauce, two of the destination's products that have received international awards. The segment also featured chefs from Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica.
The Caribbean Weekend in Atlanta, sponsored by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), celebrated Caribbean cuisine, music and culture in one of Atlanta's premier shopping centers, Lennox Mall.
Another highlight of the weekend event was a cocktail reception at City Hall that attracted city officials, travel partners, members of the diplomatic corps and Caribbean nationals. This event showcased a sampling of Caribbean cuisine and Chef Murphy joined the two other Caribbean chefs in conducting culinary demonstrations of a variety of Caribbean dishes.
The two-day Expo in Atlanta attracted over 10,000 attendees including travel agents and consumers, who came to learn more about the newest attractions and tours being offered by Caribbean destinations.
The Antigua and Barbuda Tourist Board in the United States utilized the opportunity to promote the twin-island destination and to introduce them to range of accommodations and attractions that are offered by the twin-island destination.
US Director of Tourism, Derede Samuel-Whitlock commented, "Chef Murphy does it again! As Antigua and Barbuda continues to receive significant exposure about our culinary offerings, Chef Murphy's work has become a stamp of the destination's culinary talents. We want to commend Chef Murphy for consistently supporting our promotional efforts as we attempt to brand our unique culinary offerings as a core part of our tourism product.'
"We're are extremely excited about this show that presents the Caribbean's rich style and flavor to a consumer audience in one of our region's emerging source markets," said Hugh Riley, CTO's Director of Marketing for the Americas.
Earlier this year, CTO also partnered with member Caribbean destinations and other travel partners to host similar Caribbean Weekend events in Chicago and Washington D.C.
