Visit of His Excellency Sten Ask,
Ambassador of Sweden to Antigua
February 25, 2008
St. John's, Antigua
On 20th February 2008, Ambassador Sten Ask of Sweden paid a visit to Antigua
and Barbuda. During his visit he met with the Prime Minister, Hon. Baldwin
Spencer, to discuss relations between Antigua and Barbuda and Sweden.
Ambassador Ask conveyed his deepest condolences to the Prime Minister, the
People of Antigua and Barbuda, and the Family of the late Hon. Charlesworth
Samuel on his recent passing.
During the session they considered areas of development assistance that the
Government of Sweden could engage in.
Both agreed that education should be a priority, and Sweden offered
scholarships for qualified Antiguans and Barbudans to study in Swedish
institutions. The Prime Minister was also on-board with proposals for
deeper commercial linkages between businesses in Sweden and Antigua and
Barbuda. Prime Minister Spencer welcomed suggestions for a business
delegation to visit Antigua and Barbuda to explore commercial relations with
local companies, and to look for areas for possible investment.
In response to the Prime Minister's ideas on Information and Communications
Technology, the Ambassador was pleased to propose areas of cooperation that
would include interventions by larger and more developed ICT firms from
Sweden.
Prime Minister Spencer and Ambassador Ask also examined possible
developments in the area of renewable energy, tourism, and deepening
consular cooperation between Antigua and Barbuda and Sweden.
