Social Studies Teachers Review Syllabus
At two-day Workshop in Antigua

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua

A 2-day Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Social Studies orientation workshop began Tuesday in Antigua, convened to discuss several topics that will enable teachers to adequately prepare students to write the examinations.

Teachers drawn from St. Kitts/Nevis, Dominica, Montserrat, The British Virgin Islands, Anguilla and Antigua will discuss the new content areas, the resources needed to become current with the new content of the syllabus, and how the syllabus translates into the examination among others.

CXC's Assistant Registrar Cheryl Stephens, one of the facilitators at the workshop, says part of the Council's policy is that a teacher orientation workshop is held to discuss the implementations of teachers and assessment every time a syllabus is revised substantially, and the document is re-issued.

The expectation is that teachers will understand the changes made, to use a range of teaching approaches to deliver the curriculum, as well as to set and mark SBA's appropriately as stipulated in the syllabus.

Stephens noted that the workshop is part of CXC's maintenance procedure, and is conducted when the syllabus is updated every 5 years.

This is the first in a series of workshops to be held in CXC territories.

Facilitators Stephenson Braithwaite and Assistant Registrar Cheryl Stephens will move on to Barbados following the end of the workshop in Antigua on Wednesday.
