Tourism Cadet awarded full scholarship
to Sustainable Tourism Conference

Tourism Cadet, Sanka George will represent The Antigua Barbuda Tourism Cadet Corps (ABTCC) at the upcoming Caribbean Media Exchange Sustainable Tourism Conference (CMEx) sponsored by Counterpart International.

George, a 4th Form student of Christ the King High School was awarded a Full Fellowship to attend the conference in Puerto Rico from May 15th - 19th.

"Tourism is our main industry and I am keenly interested in learning about the industry as the key driver of the 21st century economic and social evolution; and eventually making my contribution to the development of my island tourist industry", noted George in her paper to Counterpart International.

Also in attendance will be Cynthia Simon, Manager, Tourism Education, Training and Awareness within the Ministry of Tourism. Simon is also the Programme Coordinator of the ABTCC.

Simon is full of praise for Counterpart International's on-going action in bringing together tourism professionals, regional and international journalists and youth to discuss sustainable tourism initiatives for the growth and development of the region's tourist industry and ultimately impacting the lives of Caribbean people.

She expressed gratitude to Counterpart International and American Airlines for sponsorship towards her participation.

The theme for the May 15-19 CMEx Conference is Embracing the Diaspora: Connecting Communities. In addition to analysing and paying special attention to the benefits of Community Tourism, several critical tourism issues will be discussed to include - The Caribbean Brand, Multi-Cultural Marketing, Tourism, the Environment and Climate Change and Youth Tourism Perspectives: Keeping It Real.
