May 15, 2008
ST. JOHN'S, Antigua
Romance will spread its wings from June 12-15 in the multiple award-winning destination of Antigua and Barbuda, during the staging of the "Romantic Rhythms" Music Festival.
The line-up for the final night of "Romantic Rhythms" will include international artistes Damien "Jr Gong" Marley, Heather Headley, and Musiq Soulchild.
The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium will reverberate on June 15 with the pulse of romantic reggae vibes from sensation Damien "Jr Gong" Marley. The youngest of the internationally renowned Marley's won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2001 for his major label debut Halfway Tree. He's majorly touted for his recent urban reflections on the Welcome
To Jamrock album, which includes the smoky spiritual love ballad "There For You".
The night's Caribbean roots spread south for Trinidadian-born Heather Headley. The US-based R&B vocalist is best known for her soulful reflections in "This Is Who I Am," "In My Mind," and "Wait
A Minute". She has won one Tony Award and received two Grammy Award nominations. In 1997, she also played Nala in The Lion
King, the Broadway musical.
The uniqueness of the night's third international performer, Musiq Soulchild, needs no deeper introduction than his name itself. His popular "Just As Long As Your Love Don't Change" lyrics still strike a sentimental chord among romantics.
The festival's impressive lineup of local, regional and international talent samples a cross-section of musical genres, with one thing in common: unmistakable romance. Visitors and locals will undoubtedly find "365 reasons to fall in love" and a yearning to "kiss and makeup" in the twin-islands of Antigua and Barbuda.
Among the impressive line up of internationally recognized artistes for the 3 concert nights are Grammy award-winning singer, Lionel Richie and prolific country music singer and actor Kenny Rogers.
Brian McKnight, Keyshia Cole, Shaggy, Maxi Priest, Destra Garcia and the Atlantik band; an exciting line-up of local performers, such as El A Kru featuring Tizzy, Taxik featuring Claudette Peters, and the Burning Flames will also perform.
