Antiguans & Barbudans to receive Sustainable Cities Course

13th June 2016

Urban and Social Transformation professionals in Antigua and Barbuda will have the opportunity to take part in a Sustainable Cities Training Course from June 21 to 24.

The course is a collaborative effort between the Organization of American States, the Department of Environment and the GEF/Small Grants Programs.

The OAS, with funding from the US/OAS, in partnership with the Department of the Environment and the Government of Antigua & Barbuda will provide an integral overview of the different aspects that contribute to building sustainable communities, targeting different topics emanating from the First Summit on Sustainable Development in the Americas held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in December 1996.

Local technicians and non-governmental groups will share on-the-ground initiatives and approaches being incorporated, which is expected to help the country to meet the climate change and NDC targets.

The course which will end with the 2nd Annual "Climate Fest: Environmental Exhibition and Fair" will see 15 local projects including solar energy systems relevant to all.

Climate Fest begins at 9am on the compound of the Department of the Environment.
