Transfers to be Granted in Exceptional Circumstances

01st July 2016

The office of the Acting Director of Education is advising members of the public that no changes will be made once students who wrote the Grade Six National Assessment are placed in secondary schools, except where an error was made or for health and safety reasons.

Clare Browne says where placement is concerned; it is done in three ways:

1. The top 100 students are assigned to the school of their choice.
2. The majority of students are placed by the Ministry of Education in the schools closest to their places of residence with space to accommodate them.
3. Under special health and safety concerns, a students are assigned at the discretion of the Director of Education.

Any application for consideration based on the above MUST be forwarded to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology through original schools no later than ONE WEEK following the publication of the results. All applications must be addressed to the Director of Education.

As it relates to non-Grade Six National Assessment transfers, the following persons are eligible for transfer into public school provided they satisfy the requirements of Sections 28 and 32 of the Education Act of Antigua and Barbuda, 2008:

I. ALL citizens of Antigua and Barbuda
II. Non-nationals who have completed three (3) years of private school within Antigua and Barbuda (proof required)

Students are placed in either of two (2) ways:

I. The majority are placed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in the schools closest to their places of residence with space to accommodate them.
II. Under special health and safety concerns a few are assigned at the discretion of the Director of Education.
